repeated passage of original isolate

generated virus of low  titre, so the original isolate was inoculated

into ECE in July 2006,

followed by one pass in BHK-21 cells.

original typing attempts

as one of previous US types were unsuccessful.  Multiple other serotypes were isolated from this herd (BTV-3, 10

and two isolates of unknown serotype - see USA2002/03).

[Seg-2: ]

TAT1990/01

Initial attempts to identify serotype by SNT were unsuccessful in 1990

However, type specific RT-PCR  and sequencing (Seg-2)  March 2008 identified type 22
